In a quiet corner of Warwickshire, a new hidden treasure has opened its doors. Hush, a private members’ club nestled in a basement by the River Avon, exudes the glamour and intrigue of a bygone era.
“Leanne and her team brought our vision to life with remarkable precision, creating a space that is as sophisticated as it is timeless.”

THE BRIEF

A new private members’ club for Warwickshire. The basement venue chosen for the establishment presented some unique challenges, while also paving the way for new strokes of creativity. Where some might see a constraint, we see an opportunity to create something transformative.

Hush is an immersive experience, taking visitors on a journey through the ages to a bygone time. There is mystery, romance and intrigue to be found around every corner. Over nine months, our team reimagined the space, bringing drama and atmosphere to a previously neglected corner of Leamington Spa.

THE CHALLENGE

The allure of this space can be pinpointed in the lighting design. This carefully orchestrated element appears effortless, and yet no part of the club’s ambiance was left to chance.

Low ceilings could be seen as a limitation, but we used this to create a layered lighting scheme that creates depth and drama. Combining uplights, hidden LED strips, wall sconces and statement pendants allowed us to cast a warm and inviting glow, evocative of candle-lit speakeasy bars.

A standout feature of the design is the pendants, sourced from Anna Hayman Designs. They bring a softness and radiance to the space, perfectly placed alongside the golden tones of the table lamps, while fluted glass fixtures ripple light across the space.

It’s a subtle nod to the art deco aesthetic. The warm white palette envelops guests, capturing them in a cinematic embrace, where time seems to slow down.

WHY BLACK IVY

Our experience in luxury hospitality design speaks volumes. Hush approached us to create their basement venue following the success of other venues in the area, including Dillon’s Spire Bar and The Green Dragon. After our first meeting, it became clear there was synergy in the match.

The client envisioned a space that would capture the spirit of the 1920s, but with the refinement and comfort of today. In short, we wanted every detail to feel intentional, every element to tell a story, and the result is a space that feels intimate yet spectacular.

THE RESULT

Since its soft opening, Hush has quickly become a talking point for locals and visitors alike. More than just a venue, it’s a sanctuary – a place where thoughtful design, carefully curated lighting, and luxurious materials converge to create an atmosphere that is both timeless and undeniably now.

For its members, Hush is already proving to be a sanctuary of warmth, texture and light – a glowing homage to the magic of the 1920s.
